The settlement of Yanakie is situated on an isthmus between Corner Inlet and Shallow Inlet and lies between Wilsons Promontory in the south and the foothills of the Strzelecki Ranges to the north.
First settled in 1850, the Yanakie district, including what is now the Wilsons Promontory National Park was used to graze cattle and sheep. In 1905 the National Park was declared, and the remaining area has developed into a prosperous and friendly farming community and, more recently, a popular destination for tourists.
The remarkably temperate climate allows visitors to enjoy Yanakie’s many attractions throughout the entire year.
Yanakie Beach at the eastern end of Foley Road foreshore is popular for
anglers and birdwatchers alike.

Walking tracks starting along Foley Road at Yanakie allow easy access to Corner Inlet. The short walks take in the Inlet shoreline, coastal bush and a viewing platform offering elevated views of the Inlet and the mountains of the Prom.
Shallow Inlet can also be accessed via a short walking track through coastal scrub at Hourigan's Camp Lane off Millar Road.
Corner Inlet. This huge tidal inlet is a popular destination for fishermen and offers a large variety of salt-water table fish. Boat access is available at the Foley Road boat ramp. The beautiful coastline and the sheer expanse of water ensure enjoyable recreational boating. The Inlet also offers access by boat to Bass Strait and the magnificent eastern coastline of Wilsons Promontory
