Port Franklin is located a short distance inland from the coast on the banks the Franklin River between Foster and Toora. This picturesque fishing village is loaded with history and fishing tales and has starred in an episode of the Australian drama series "F P Halifax". The river is lined with professional fishing boats that ply the waters of Corner Inlet and Bass Strait as well as commercial charter vessels . There are also a number of privately-owned pleasure craft. The tightly knit local community has much pride in Port Franklin's history and maintain the public hall, playground, tennis courts and parklands in excellent order.
